Dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation)? Learn More to Stay Away From Painkillers.

Dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation) is a problematic condition that many women must face. However, can everyone only endure the pain silently? If you know how to regulate your body, you can minimize your dysmenorrhea and make your body and mind more comfortable.
Women will experience lower abdominal pain or lumbosacral pain before or after menstruation. In severe cases, symptoms are also including syncope. These all may be called “dysmenorrhea.”
In addition to symptoms of painful menstruation during menstruation, many women also have cold limbs, dizziness, irritability, and changes in stool characteristics.

From the point of view of traditional Chinese medicine, the cause of menstrual cramps is related to the imbalance of yin and yang, qi, and blood. Therefore, traditional Chinese medicine divides dysmenorrhea into different causes and symptoms into four types: Syndrome of cold congealing in the uterus, syndrome of dampness-heat pouring downward, syndrome of dual deficiency of qi and blood, and syndrome of qi stagnation and blood stasis.

What to expect in TCM treatment?

The way of traditional Chinese medicine help dysmenorrhea
is first to understand the quality and quantity of menstruation, cycle, time of pain, location, and degree of pain, plus the color, menstrual flow. Then, observe whether the patient has other systemic symptoms to identify the type of syndrome combined with observation and inquiry.
The treatment plan includes herbal medication, acupuncture, hot compresses to appropriate treatments for different syndrome. Usually, the treatment time is one week before the menstruation, at least 2 or 3 months in a row, to observe the treatment effect.

Home care

When onset, you can use an acupoint massage to relieve pain. When work pressure or emotional tension causes qi stagnation and blood stasis pain, rubbing Taichong and Hegu points can reduce the liver and relieve pain. Suppose there are cold symptoms such as cold pain in the abdomen, refusal to press, pale complexion, and cold limbs. In that case, you can choose to apply a hot compress to the uterine acupoint (four inches below the umbilicus, three inches beside the side).

The patient still needs to consult with the practitioner directly for a detailed diagnosis to avoid delaying the condition.
