Make sure to call your insurance to verify your acupuncture benefits.

We strongly recommend patients check with their insurance company regarding their acupuncture benefits before they are seen. No two insurance companies are the same. All plans have specific requirements and limitations that are often unique to acupuncture services. We have provided a guide to assist you as you contact your insurance.

BEFORE YOU CALL:

  • Locate your insurance company phone number which is usually on the back of your insurance card.
  • Locate your insurance policy number.
  • Remember to write down the name of the person you are speaking with and the date and time of your call.

We recommend you call your insurance company and ask them:

  • Do I have acupuncture benefits?
  • Can I get acupuncture for _________________ (whatever you are coming in for)?
  • Do I have a deductible and does it apply to acupuncture?
  • Do I have a co-pay per visit as my patient responsibility?
  • Do I have a co-insurance percentage as my patient responsibility?
  • Are there any financial or visit limits per benefit year for acupuncture?
  • Do I need referral or prescription from my doctor?
  • What provider types can refer me to acupuncture?
  • Do I need prior authorization before treatment?
After you have verified your acupuncture benefits and choose to use your insurance, please email or text us a copy of the front and back of your insurance card 72 hours before your first appointment.

Things to know 

  • Know that if you bill your insurance and your insurance ends up denying your claims, the cost will end up being much higher than if you paid on the day of your visit . This is why you should call your insurance company before you start treatment.
  • We are happy to bill your insurance but it is up to you to know your benefits and to keep track of how many visits you’ve had so that you know when you have run out of benefits for your “benefit year” (which might not be the calendar year!).
