What is Cupping therapy?

Cupping is one of the treatment ways under traditional Chinese medicine theory. If our body qi and blood stagnate, that causes pain and disease. The cupping therapy area will invigorate qi and blood’s local circulation resolving swelling, pain, and tension. By drawing impurities to the surface, it removes toxins. From a Western physiology perspective, cupping loosened connective tissue or fascia and stimulated blood flow to the surface.

What does cupping therapy works?

Cupping therapy divides tendons and dispels cold, dredges the meridians, promotes qi and blood circulation, reduces swelling and pain, removes toxins, and relieves heat to restore healthy condition, relieve fatigue, and enhance physical fitness.

What do I expect from cupping therapy?

A therapeutic cupping treatment involves warming and placing cups, usually made of glass cups, on the skin. The cup suction and make the blood circulation. According to TCM theory, cupping therapy effectively promotes blood circulation to remove blood stasis and dampness. Place the cup on the area that our practitioners plan to treat your imbalance of body qi and blood. It is similar to how deep tissue massage can break up scar tissue and reduce pain. Cupping may cause temporary bruising and soreness, depending upon the degree of suction created by the vacuum and the level of internal stagnation.

Who shouldn’t get cupping?

You should forego cupping if you have:

  • Pregnancy, moms-to-be
  • Bleeding disorders like hemophilia.
  • Blood clotting problems, such as deep vein thrombosis or history of strokes.
  • Skin conditions, including eczema and psoriasis.
  • Seizures (epilepsy).
What to avoid after the cupping therapy?

Take a bath

Our body may have more fragile skin after cupping therapy; when we take a bath, water temperature might damage our skin, especially in the cupping therapy area. Therefore, people should not take a bath immediately after cupping. They should take a bath at an interval of 12 hours to avoid some adverse symptoms after the skin is damaged.

Cold wind

Generally, in cupping, the human skin’s capillaries expand and the pores open, conducive to eliminating harmful substances from the body. Therefore, people should try to avoid blowing cold wind after cupping and pay attention to keeping the body warm to prevent skin pores from being stimulated by cold, leading to other diseases.

As we all know, cupping is an excellent health method and lifestyle. If you have some physical discomfort or feel that the body is damp, you can combine it with cupping to remove it. However, when cupping, you need to pay attention to many issues, such as avoiding taking a bath or blowing cold air immediately after cupping. Paying more attention to all aspects of cupping therapy thus maximizes the cupping benefits.

What is that mark color mean?

Most people take the cupping therapy by pain management, for instance, back pain and neck pain. Have you ever noticed some circle mark colored in red, purple, or blister after cupping? In TCM practitioner’s vision, it may also be a diagnosis clue.

A similar situation like if you said that your eyes often dry and sourness may reflect your liver under imbalance condition; or you got the acne on the different facial area, it also reflects that other organ(TCM) condition.

However, we cannot only take the cupping mark color for the only prove to diagnose. According to everyone’s different conditions, someone gets the cupping mark immediately, and others can get the impact after half a day. We can merely be understanding the part of the situation in your body by observing the cupping mark color.
